Dimitri Lascaris is a partner in Siskinds' Class Actions Department. He graduated from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law in 1991. He was admitted to the bar of the State of New York and the Federal District Court for the Southern District of New York in 1992, and the Law Society of Upper Canada in 2004.
Before joining Siskinds, Mr. Lascaris practiced in the New York and Paris offices of Sullivan & Cromwell. While at Sullivan & Cromwell, he represented the underwriting syndicate in what was, at the time, the largest initial public offering of common stock in United States history. He also acted on behalf of the Republic of France in the privatization of state industries, and the Bank of Greece and the German development bank in numerous cross-border securities offerings.
Mr. Lascaris' class actions practice is concentrated in the field of securities law. He has acted as counsel to plaintiffs in numerous domestic and cross-border class actions alleging misrepresentations in prospectus offerings and in the secondary securities market. He also acts for shareholders in derivative litigation. Mr. Lascaris was lead or co-lead counsel in:
- FMF Capital Group Securities Litigation (C$29 million settlement and corporate governance reform);
- Gildan Activewear Securities Litigation (US$22.5 million settlement);
- Southwestern Resources Corp. Securities Litigation, the first case settled under Part XXIII.1 of the Ontario Securities Act (C$15.5 million settlement);
- Arctic Glacier Securities Litigation (C$13.75 million settlement);
- CP Ships Securities Litigation (C$12.8 million settlement);
- PetroKazahkstan Securities Litigation, the first insider trading class action in Canada (C$10 million settlement);
- Royal Group Technologies Securities Litigation (C$9 million settlement);
- CV Technologies Securities Litigation (C$7.1 million settlement);
- Molson-Coors Securities Litigation (US$6 million settlement);
- Canadian Superior Energy Securities Litigation (C$6 million settlement);
- Research in Motion Derivative Stock Options Litigation, the first options-backdating case in Canada (C$5 million settlement and corporate governance reform);
- TVI Pacific Securities Litigation ($2.1 million settlement and corporate governance reform); and
- Bear Lake Gold Securities Litigation ($1.3 million settlement and corporate governance reform).
Mr. Lascaris was also co-counsel to the Canadian plaintiff in the Biovail Securities Litigation, which was settled in 2008 for US$138 million and extensive corporate governance reform. Mr. Lascaris is currently prosecuting numerous domestic and cross-border securities class actions, including the Imax Corporation Securities Litigation, which is the first case for which leave has been granted under Part XXIII.1 of the Ontario Securities Act.
