Anthony O'Brien

Anthony is a lawyer in the Toronto office of Siskinds LLP. Anthony’s practice is focused on representing investors in securities class actions and other shareholder rights litigation, including stock option backdating matters. Anthony is counsel to retail and institutional investors in a number of domestic and cross-border securities class actions alleging misrepresentations in prospectuses, the secondary market and in the context of M&A transactions. Anthony acts against issuers listed on stock exchanges in Canada and in foreign jurisdictions.

Anthony is called to the bar in both Ontario and Victoria, Australia. Prior to joining Siskinds, Anthony was an associate at a boutique law firm in Melbourne practicing commercial litigation, and an associate in the Toronto office of one of Canada’s leading law firms practicing corporate and securities law. Anthony is a graduate of the University of Melbourne, Australia (LL.B. (Hons.), B.Comm.).

Abdula v. Canadian Solar Inc., 2011 ONSC 5105 (SCJ) – successful defence of motion to dismiss securities class action against foreign-listed company on jurisdictional grounds.

Metzler Investment GmbH v. Gildan Activewear Inc., [2011] OJ No 885 (SCJ) – successful motion for approval of US$22.5M settlement of securities class action.

West Coast Soft Wear Ltd. v. 1000128 Alberta Ltd., [2010] OJ Nos 5247 and 5248 (SCJ) – successful motion for approval of C$10M settlement of insider trading class action.
